Solar thermal energy or thermal energy involves harnessing the sun’s energy to produce heat that can be used to cook food or to produce hot water for domestic water consumption , either domestic hot water, heating, or production mechanical energy and , from it , electricity . Additionally it can be used to power an absorption refrigeration machine that uses heat instead of electricity to produce cold you can condition the air in the rooms .
The collectors of solar thermal collectors are classified as low, medium and high temperature. Low temperature collectors are flat plates generally used for heating water. The average temperature collectors are also usually flat plates used to heat water or air for residential or commercial use. High temperature collectors concentrate sunlight using mirrors or lenses and are generally used for the production of electricity. Solar thermal energy is different and much more efficient than solar photovoltaics , which converts solar energy directly into electricity. While generating installations provide only 600 megawatts of solar thermal energy worldwide as of October 2009 .
other plants are under construction and another 400 megawatts are developing other projects concentrating solar power totaling 14,000 megawatts.

The facilities are in Moron de la Frontera, Sevilla, Spain.
